Hi, I am trying to double major in communications studies and political science. this site Double Major says that "No more than 5 upper division courses may be common to both majors." Later, it says "Review your DPR with you to make sure that you will not overlap by more than 5 classes between the two majors." Does this 5 class overlap cap only apply to upper divisions or to upper and lower divs?

thanks :)

“No more than 5 upper division courses may be common to both majors.”

Seems like upper division to me.

yeah, upper div only. My two majors have 9 lower div classes in common. Hooray math/physics!

^That’s something I was curious about too because I had to take a lot of bs classes at SBCC lower div and I have enough units for between 2 and 4 AAs (or I will, rather, by the time the year is over)

Upperdiv for sure.

@dinoian How are you managing classes for both majors so far? I’m interested in EE/math but then I don’t want to die in the process… hahaha.

I’m just taking it 4 classes at a time, balancing math and physics every quarter (except last quarter which was my worst quarter when I took only 3 classes, all physics). There’s a lot of overlap in mathematical concepts between the two majors, so it’s not really that bad, it’s more of the memorizing formulas (formulae?) for physics that causes difficulty.

random question, but does it seem like double majoring in psychobiology and biology would be a bad idea?

Seems a little redundant, so I wouldn’t suggest to do it if it will force you to stay extra time at UCLA, but if you could complete both in 4 years without the 5 class+ upper div overlap, might as well go for it!
