Is it true that if you are enrolled at SFS you cant double major in a subject taught at the college? Well, I was thinking of doing International Politics and then Economics at Gtown College.

That's true. But there are SFS majors like International Political Economy and possibly one other economic one.

You also can't double major in the SFS. The closest you can do to a second major (or a minor, for that matter) is the certificate program, and those are offered in specific areas like Asian Studies or African Studies.

Try International Political Economy at SFS. It may be what you're looking for.

Can you major in, say Government in the college and double major or get a certificate from SFS?

Anyone can get a certificate from SFS, but SFS does not allow double major with something in the College or even a double major in the SFS itself.

You could, if you really wanted, double major in the college and get a certificate from the SFS (though it would be tons of work -- the certificates are more than minors, but less than majors).

This would basically be:

6 courses for College Core (this is different for everybody due to AP Credits/lack of, but I'll just say 6)
+ 10 courses for first major
+ 10 courses for second major
+ 7 courses for certificate (this is different also, due to overlapping requirements and language proficiency requirement, but let's just say 6)

So we're at 33 courses, which sounds okay, since you'll probably take a bit more that at Georgetown. But there WILL be scheduling problems, there WILL be classes not offered that you want, and there WILL be differences in requirements. Also, you WILL realize that academics aren't like extra cirriculars: you're not supposed to have a laundry list of degrees. Figure out what you like most and if you really can't decide, double major. There's no reason to try to arrange complicated triple minors or double majors with double minors or single majors with quadruple minors or the other silly things people come up with.
