I'm definitely going to major in art/design in college, but I'm also thinking of double majoring in something less ambiguous as to not have to be a starving artist.
Both of my parents work in science and they recommend that I major in a science.
But I don't really know

What's a good 2nd major if I want to major in art, and then double major in something else? I just want to have some "background" in another area so that when I am not making a living with art I can try to find an entry-level job in that field.

How about business? You can then start your own design company after graduation or at least wouldn’t get tricked ^^ lol

I’m thinking of double major too. I plan to do economics and design in undergrads, then business and design in grad. If somehow I find myself completely hopeless in the art field I’d still have economics as my “background” like you said ^^ which is useful for many other things (law, business, etc.).

I’m currently working towards a Art and Design|Media Arts double major right now.

If your school has any sort of Communications major, or something of the sort, that’s a good way to apply art to something more in the industry.

You don’t really have to double major to work in that other area. Just get a minor or take a few electives. Maybe perhaps adding IT or Marketing courses?
