I was wondering if a double major in fine arts and advertising would be suitable? I’m going to minor in public relations to especially aid my Advertising major (possibly would help fine arts as well for curating and creative direction purposes), but the reason I want to double major in these two studies is because I have a passion for painting, but there is no fine art minor at the college I want to attend.
I feel like they would go hand in hand since advertising does require creativity and different studies in fine arts has always helped me blossom creatively.
I was thinking either the double major in both, or possibly an interdisciplinary major?
Is there any way you can take painting classes without declaring the major?
Actually, I just caught that you “want to attend” this school. I’m assuming that means you haven’t been accepted yet? If that’s the case, I would wait until you’re actually accepted before making any decisions based solely on the how the program at that one school is structured. If I’m assuming incorrectly and you’re already accepted, again look into whether you can take the painting classes without declaring the major.
Agreeing with PhantomVirgo: you are getting ahead of yourself. Get to college, try both sets of classes and see what works. You don’t have to declare your major for at least a year.
I’ve been accepted! And I can look into being able to see if I can take the painting classes without declaring the major, that would be great. I might attend as an undeclared major just to be “safe”.
If you want to double major in art and advertising, go ahead - there’s nothing wrong or unsuitable about that.
BUT if you only want to double major so you can pursue your love for painting, then I agree, you can take painting and other art classes without being a major.
Also, consider that having two majors and a minor might be difficult or impossible to complete on time. You can major in one thing and minor in one other thing, or maybe double major.
