double major in biology and theatre, good idea?

I'm already registered as a biology major. I'm good at bio; I love science.

But I was considering my school's BFA in Design/Technology/Theatre Management. I contacted the program's director about possibly double majoring, and she said that she knows of folks who have picked up a double major and she thought they had a hectic time with it. The BFA's requirements are pretty lengthy. I also think the second majors were all humanities.

I'm not sure how much I want to work in theatre; going to plays is so enjoyable for me, but I don't know if I'd do theatre. I want to go the design and technology route because I like to work with my hands (especially construction/set building) and would probably want to work in film where I could build cool sets and such.

Should I attempt it? And can anyone tell me how time-consuming tech classes are? Because I'll probably take a few regardless of whether or not I am a BFA student or not.

It sounds like the BFA director was cautious about a double-major, and I would be too. BFA programs are intensive; tech and design classes are typically very time-consuming, and involve a great deal of out-of-class work hours.
Classes probably must be taken in sequence; it’s likely that classes are quite small, and therefore will only be offered at one specific time each semester. This means that if you can’t fit, for example, Lighting 101 into your schedule, you may have to wait till next semester or even next year to take it.
Since you seem to enjoy theater but aren’t prepared to really commit to a career in that business, I would suggest that you take some tech classes if you enjoy them, but don’t attempt the BFA program if you really intend to major in biologyl
