Double Major in Business and CS?

Hey all,

I'm a junior in high school planning on applying to MIT, Cornell, UMich, and UC Berkeley. I'm hoping to double major in Business (specific focus not determined yet) and Computer Science. All four of these schools are very highly ranked for both majors, so I'm hoping to get a good education wherever I go.

Anyway, I'm posting this to hear from Cornell students studying either of these things, or even just students with an opinion on them. How rigorous are the courses? What are my options for Business focus (accounting, finance, etc.?) and which would be the best to combine with CS?

And there's other general things I'm wondering about Cornell, like the weather. I live in Central Michigan so I'm used to the winter, but I definitely get sick of sub zero temps. Also I've heard fantastic things about the food at Cornell? And what about the social life situation in Ithaca (I like to party a bit)?

That would be extremely difficult. CS is a major in A&S and Engineering, while AEM (the business equivalent) is in CALS. If you double major you have to satisfy general ed requirements in both colleges. And because CS and AEM classes don’t overlap at all unless you’re counting elective credits you’re in for a lot of extra classes. I wouldn’t say its impossible but you would be looking at taking 5 classes a semester, every semester, and 6 for at least two of them. You can however enroll in Engineering as a CS major and then take a minor in Business - this minor is only available to ENG and CALS students.

The closest thing would probably be a CS/Econ double major if you’d want to not have issues with college policies and whatnot.

Damn, that really sucks. I’m studying economics as a dual enrolled student right now so I do enjoy that and wouldn’t mind double majoring in it. However I really wanted to lean more towards business than economics, unless of course Cornell’s economics major includes a focus on banking (something I’m VERY interested in). Is a minor in business enough to get anywhere after college? I really wanted to have a strong grasp of business and CS because CS is the fastest growing field right now and business is pretty much the foundation of monetary success.

Is Cornell similar to other colleges or is every single college different as far as double major policy? I haven’t asked yet on the individual college forums but I probably will soon.
