Double Major in Computer Science and Film Productions?

Hello!

I am really interested in double majoring/pursing in computer science and film productions. Could someone please give me advice/insights/thoughts on whether I should pursue such path? I know that a degree in computer science would probably secure me a job in the future, but I wasn’t so sure if I should spend time/effort in pusuing a degree in film productions since( (1) the film industry is pretty competitive and (2) I don’t really have much experience in film. I am also worried about whether a double major in those two areas would burden me financially.

Thanks for any replies!

I think you should go for it. But they are totally different fields of study. Also if you know that computer science will be a secure job I would focus on that major. Have you considered minoring in Film production?

Only you can decide on whether you should do it. A major doesn’t necessarily have to equal a career path; you can study one or both simply because you like them and want to learn more about them. You can also attempt to enter a competitive field with a backup plan in your pocket in case you change your mind or don’t succeed.

The double-major being a financial burden is a valid question; you should check out the student handbook of the college you plan to attend and look at the coursework required, and discuss with some advisors. Find out if this is something that might take you more than 4 years to finish.

Majoring in one field and taking a lot of electives in the other is almost always more advisable than double majoring. You can fulfill your intellectual drives in ways that don’t have to involve jumping through a department’s hoops to get a seal of approval.
