Hi, I'm a graduating senior who will attend Penn next year. I was accepted to Wharton, so I'll be pursuing the BS in Economics, but I was also looking into double majoring in Computer Science. I have NO experience with programming, and the only reason I was considering this is because computer science seems extremely interesting and I have considered working for a tech company when I graduate, for which a degree in computer science seems invaluable. Is computer science hard? Would a double major in these two subject areas be difficult--especially with the Wharton classes that I am required to take? Thank you!

Getting a degree in economics and computer science would be considered a “dual degree”, since the economics portion is coming from Wharton, and CIS would be from the engineering school. It would be tough to do a dual degree just because you would need to fulfill all of the requirements in both schools. You could do a minor in CIS though, or alternatively try to get into the M&T program.

Double majoring like that is incredibly hard. Comp Sci is in the engineering school and the major requirements are significantly more when compared to Wharton or the College. Essentially, doubling majoring between econ/comp sci will require about as many classes as perhaps triple majoring outside of Engineering.
