I'm an international student and have been accepted for the BFA film production in dodge college. However, I'm also interested in advertising and is thinking to double major in film and PR & ad (also for safety) do you think this would be necessary? and do you think the workload would be too high? I'm not really familiar with US universities so I would really appreciate any answer. Thank you

Hi Rianiuwi,

Congratulations on being accepted into the Film Production Major at Dodge College! This is a very hard major to be accepted into since they also accept approximately 12% of applicants. I assume that you will be a freshman. I know that Film Production majors spend many long hours creating their films but only you will know over time how much of a work load you can handle. Because you were accepted into a Dodge College major you are allowed to take other Dodge College classes outside of your major (this is not true for those accepted at Chapman U but not into a major at Dodge).

I just checked the present catalogue and there are separate Dodge College minors for Advertising and for Public Relations. You do not need to make a decision on a minor until the end of your sophomore year (prior to having 60 credits). So you have plenty of time to determine how many classes you will be able to handle besides those required for your major. You can also take a few elective classes (that will count toward your major requirements) over your first 2 years at Chapman U in the minor of your choice to help you determine if you want to make it your minor. You can also create your own minor possibly a PR/Advertising (see below). My son created a new minor and just recived approval; 2 weeks before the end of his sophomore year.

A minor I think would be helpful to you for example if you were applying for a job that was directly related to your minor. You could then truthfully state and list the minor as your degree on your application/resume that you had a degree that was directly relating to the job you were applying to. Note the application/resume should be rewritten each time for the actual job you are applying for.

Again you have plenty of time to create the best academic path for you at Chapman U; not to worry now. All the best to you!
