Double Major in performing theatre and business

From the threads it looks like Northwestern and Ball U offer and support dual majors in performing theatre and business. Are there others in California, Texas, Midwest and East. We are just beginning our search with our junior.

My daughter is a BFA Acting major at UMBC and is double majoring in French as well. They also have a number of majors and minors within the business department. She did have a lot of AP classes in high school that covered many of her core/gen ed classes so it gave her some flexibility. Now that she’s toward the end (she’s graduating this May), when each major has specific small classes at specific times (sometimes not offered every semester) that are needed in order to graduate, it’s become a little stickier. But both departments have worked with her to make sure that she can fit it all in. That being said, even if your college has the ability to/supports a double major, you or your child should be an expert at each major’s requirements because in many schools, two very different departments aren’t going to be savvy about what the other’s requirements are. And plan ahead.

JMU and Muhlenberg are BA programs that can support double majors.

Although this is a minor, not a major, Fredonia has an interesting interdisciplinary minor in Dance Studio Administration. Only one of the 9 classes is specific to dance majors/studios though, so I’m sure you could make an interdisciplinary minor that could even be specific to the business of theatre if you took the other eight and consulted with an advisor about what that ninth class should be.

That’s what my D is planning to do. If you are looking at BFA, Univ of Michigan (dual degree programs - 5 yrs), NYU Tisch, Northern IL, come to my mind. If it is BA, I am sure there are quite a few. Pace, Case Western Reserve (OH), Point Park, American, Baldwin Wallace, Loyola Univ Chicago., Indiana Univ Bloomington, etc. Some are auditioned, while others are not.

I’m sure this would be feasible at DePaul, too.

Pace BFA may be possible to minor in something else (arts management or really anything) - especially if you come in with AP or college credits. It was one of the few BFA’s we saw where this was possible. Seems most conservatory style BFA’s keep the kids so busy there is no time for anything else. There are broader based BFA’s and, of course, BA’s in theater that allow for this, though.

Marymount may, too, as the credits are less for their BFA than in other schools.

We know some kids at Southern Methodist that either double majored or got a BFA with a minor in something else.

I just learned that Loyola University New Orleans has a program that is specifically a BA in Theatre Arts with a minor in Business Administration. It’s not as much of a theater performance major, but there are two semesters of voice/movement and at least one class in acting.
