I know that both Physical Education and Art Education do not have much in common (if anything), but I love both health fields and Art fields. I figured as a teacher I could either use my P.E. degree to be a teacher and then my free time using my Art degree for freelance stuff, or be an art teacher and use P.E. in the summers as a personal trainer or something. I would like to know if double majoring in these two fields is an okay idea or if it is absurd. I love both fields so much and I figure that the amount of jobs I could get with an art degree are endless, so if I had to chose only one degree, I would pick Art. I know that the amount of teaching jobs in both art and P.E. are low but I figured this would double my chances of getting a job teaching something I am passionate about. I am open to every idea and opinion, so please don’t hold back. I need all the answers I can get.
The one thing that both have in common is that the job market is likely to be a problem. Look at the number of each of those teachers in the high school you attended.
In my school, I’m one of 23 math teachers. We have 3 art teachers and probably 6 Phys Ed teachers.
You could be an art teacher and also coach some of the sports at the school. That might give you a leg up in hiring against the applicants who are just art teachers.
