Double major in physics&astronomy or major in astrophysics?

Hello, I am planning on going to graduate school after undergrad to get my doctorate in astrophysics. I am aiming to go to an Ivy or Ivy-level graduate school. In undergraduate, should I double major in physics&astronomy, or should I major in astrophysics? Which one would provide me with the most substantial background? Which is a more useful degree(s)?

Thank you!

I am not specifically experienced in knowing the specifics of physics and astronomy degrees, but what I CAN tell you is that most graduate programs require you at least had a related undergraduate start. With physics it may be more specific as far as what they’re looking for, but I think either choice sounds perfectly sufficient. The only foreseeable differences between the two routes are that 1. Double majoring requires you to give up elective space 2. Astronomy and physics separately as majors gives you more information about each subject than the combined study and 3. A double major shows work ethic to employers and graduate schools.

Good luck. :)

You have very good points thank you very much!
