Hello, I was just looking for some decent schools that have a good political science and or economics program. I am looking on the east coast particularly for large schools. I am from VA, I will have completed 5 Ap's throughout high school, my overall gpa is about 2.8. My SAT scores is about 1700. My major concern is looking for schools with the stats that I currently have. I had some difficulty Freshman and Sophomore years with family issues which I intend on including in my essay if need be. I hope to hear from a lot of people on this board. Just give me a list of colleges and I will look at them and research them without any problems. If they are not necessarily the best Political Science school yet a good school for say business then go ahead and include that as well. Just keep in mind my gpa and SAT scores. Thanks a lot.

Indiana University-Bloomington
University of Connecticut
University of Vermont

Indiana is a good choice yet my parents are not allowing me to go their. Vermont seems a bit too far, for the fact that it is not that much of an amazing istitution. Can I get into Connecticut though? If I could please get some more then that would be helpful, thanks.

Vermont is one of the original 8 "public Ivies". It may not be "amazing", but it is a well respected university.

And don't assume that your parents won't allow you to apply to a school just because they don't approve. For starters, you must do research on those schools and explain to them why you think you should apply.

Other decent schools to consider are University of Massachusetts-Amherst, the University of New Hampshire and Rutgers-New Brunswick.

All of the schools I listed are matches or reaches.

Alexandre, I do not doubt the fact that Vermont is a bad or unreputable school, it is just the location itself that turns my parents heads away from it. They would like me to be somewhat more closer to home but I am definitely pushing them towards it. If you know anything else about the school (Vermont) that may help convince my parents as to why I should apply their, then please let me know. Thanks.

Alexandre, I also must comment on Vermont, there is one problem that I had just noticed, the problem is that it is not a very diverse schools which is a definite problem considering that I am what most people would call, not white. So it brings up an issue for me. No offense to them it is just that I do not wish to be a minority at a school. Thanks a lot. If you have a few more schools that would be great. Also do you know how good Umass - Amhersts' Political Science program is. Thanks.

Too bad about Vermont. It is one of the hippest and quaintest college towns I know.

UMass is a decent school...nothing more and nothing less. Two other universities with good Political Science programs are Michigan State University and THE Ohio State University.
