<p>Your prospective major matters- very little. What does matter, though, is the overall picture of you the Admissions Committee infers from your application. If you are exceptional at music, then you may be <em>slightly</em> better served by putting that you are a music major. But the bottom line is this: a prospective major never got ANYONE into Harvard or Stanford in the last ten years. A rare major helps in the same way that a 20 point bonus to your overall SAT score would help.</p>
