If I wanted to major in BME with a concentration on Biomechanics, would it be pointless to double major in MechE or would it actually be more useful?

I think so. I would recommend a major in MechE and get a BME Master's degree.

dr_reynolds, can you clarify 'I think so'? I'm not sure what position you're taking.

To clarify: I wouldn't say the double major would be completely pointless, but don't think it's a good idea. Is that clear? Double majoring two engineering degrees just seems like a waste of time when you can usually get a B.S. and M.S. in the same amount of time.

I would recommemd a BS in mechanical, which is more flexible and allows for a change of career much more than BMe. Meanwhile, you can take some BME classes as electives, or if possible minor in BME.

Then if you are still interested, get a BME masters.

You can get MechE/BME double major w/o overload at CMU.
