Double Major or Minor in Music Industry?

Hey everyone,

My name's Ryan and I'm going to be a junior in high school this upcoming September but I've already done a lot of research regarding college.

I am basically set on majoring in Information Technology/Systems because I'm interested in it and pretty good at that kind of stuff and I know those kind of jobs generally pay well. I am also, however, very interested in double majoring or minoring in Music Business/Industry. The reason for this is I've been a drummer for 11 years, I'm very interested in the business aspect of music, and would really like to get a job doing information technology in the music industry upon graduation.

My question is would it be too much to double major in both Information Technology/Systems and Music Industry? I think it would be manageable because I think I would be able to "double dip" many of the prerequisites and core business classes for both of the majors. Is this true? I would definitely prefer double majoring, but I just want to make sure it's manageable.

If you guys are interested, the list of schools that I am most interested in as of now are NYU, Belmont University, Drexel University, University of Miami, Northeastern University, University of Southern California, and Syracuse University, all of which have a great Music Business/Industry program and also offer Information Technology/Systems programs.

Thanks,
Ryan

Depending on what level of AP credit you get and what level of music pre-reqs you test out of when you start, it may be possible, but you could end up taking more than 4 years either way. You’re smart to look for schools that have both at this point.
