I was wondering if it was possible to double major or minor in another field from CAS as well as get a BFA from Tisch? My mom really wants to make sure I have a back up plan for if my musical theatre dream doesn’t work out.
Thanks.

At Tisch, it is possible to minor in another subject in CAS or even double major. A double major is harder and would be more doable if you come in with some AP credits.

In my view, it is good to have additional skills beyond MT, but I do not think having a minor or double major is necessary.

When you graduate, you will still have a college degree and a college degree will be beneficial in the work world. Many jobs are not necessarily related to what you majored in at college. Also, a degree in theater is valuable in many areas. Further, even if you do not make it on stage, there are many careers in the arts world.

I have a child who is a rising senior at Tisch who has studied MT and Acting there and did not do a minor or double major but I feel confident that she will be able to get a job, even if not ON stage.

Thanks for clearing that up. My mom will be happy.

I understand wanting to please your mom but honestly, when you go to college, the decisions of what you major in, etc. need to be yours as you are the one going and it is your life and you will be an adult who needs to make decisions about his/her own life. Hopefully, you will articulate your goals to your parents and they will hopefully support you in achieving them. Study what interests YOU.
