Is it possiable to double major in Mechanical Engineering and Theater? I am goin to be a freshman at UMBC this coming fall and i dont know if it is possiable, or if i would want to double major in these things (I want to be able to enjoy college).Let me know what you think.

haha, I live RIGHT next to UMBC...anyways, from working there and such..I see a couple of people who double major come their junior year or end of sophomore year. Usually its because they have so many math credits or a bunch of science credits that its worth it to them to take the extra courses for the double major. Usually though, they dont decide that they are going to double major until later in college. I have yet to see a double major in two totally diff fields like engineering and english or something like that.

I doubled in chemE and a liberal arts degree. Absolutely no overlap.

You can do it if you start early, devote all of your electives to your 2d major, and use AP credit.

The biggest issue with double-majoring is whether or not the requirements conflict. Many engineering courses have to be taken during a specific semester, and only one course is offered. For example, you might have to take Materials during sophomore year, spring semester, on MWF from 9:30 am until 10:20 am. Now, if you have a theatre requirement that conflicts with that, tough luck. That is why you'll have to start early to take any hard-and-fast theatre requriements whenever you can. You also might end up taking electives that you don't like as much.

Certainly possible; I did it. I didn't get started until my junior year (I had done so many of my chemE reqs that I had a ton of free space in my schedule) and chemE has more requirements than mechE.

would i still have free time if i double major like minus the time i would have to study?

Well, as an engineer, there's going to be one year when you lose sleep, weight, and sanity. If you plan your courses well, you'll have free time in the day. Best way to accomplish that is to see if you can take night courses during one summer, which will free up some room in your schedule.
