<p>I want to double major in film and philosophy, and perhaps do a minor in history assuming it is possible.</p>
<p>Will I be incredibly overwhelmed by courses if I do this?</p>
<p>Most incoming freshmen have two or three majors on their mind with a couple of minors. It’s going to be a serious pain to do all of those things, and you’re probably going to spread yourself thin but this is only my opinion. I think it wouldn’t be as overwhelming as it would be annoying trying to complete all of the requirements. ( I’m an incoming freshmen too, but that is what upperclassmen tell me!)</p>
<p>There are two problems with this goal both which may or may not be overcome (you’d have to check with your advisor and people in each department).</p>
<p>First, time obviously. Each major and minor is a different number of classes and given you’re only taking 18 credits a semester unless you plan on taking extra semesters, you may not have time for the two major requirements, the minor requirements and your basic requirements. Workwise, you would be able to manage most likely because it’s not like you’re taking MORE classes per semester, you’re just more strategically using your allotted credits on your majors and minors and basic requirements. Perhaps it would be more difficult because you would be taking upper level course in all of the fields but I think generally if a student is willing to commit to the four classes they have for each semester it’s not impossible to work hard and do well. You probably would have little to no room for any elective classes.</p>
<p>Secondly, given the specific departments you would have to check with your advisor about whether an inter-school major is possible. Philosophy and History are both in CAS while Film is done in Tisch, Steinhardt or Gallatin. I don’t know what the policies are about inter-school majoring at all but you would have to at least navigate the bureaucracy that is NYU to see if it is at all possible.</p>
<p>I know a few people who are double majoring and minor, most people i know are either double majoring or just minoring. Unless you have to take extra courses and pay for them then you are still taking the same amount of courses as someone who isn’t double majoring and minoring. If you are actually interested in the fields then it won’t be as painful as you think. The only difference will be that you will have to retain info from your intro classes as you progress towards the advanced courses as opposed to someone who just took a bunch of electives to fill credit reqs. You will also have to plan your courses ahead of time.</p>
<p>It’s very possible, but it depends on what you’re double majoring in and minoring in that makes it overwhelming or not. I just graduated with a Film/TV major, and a French and History minor. My original intention was to double in Film/TV and History, and just minor in French, which I could have done, but I chose not to due to financial reasons. I was only two classes away from a History major, but I wanted to devote to Film/TV because that’s what I want to make a career out of. So to answer your question, it’s definitely doable, but because I know the curriculum of Film/TV and Philosophy, I can say that it may be a little bit overwhelming because you have to write a 30+ so research paper for Philosophy that you will be spending a whole semester researching and meeting up with your advisor about and then arguing it and presenting it to a panel of profs…at the same time, you’ll probably be making your senior thesis film which will take up your entire life…and also because you’ll probably be trying to fundraise for it, or come up with the money yourself, and a crew of people, and everything from scouting locations, auditions and rehearsals…it’ll take a lot of time! and History classes are all about reading and writing papers…so yeah. At the end if you want to be a filmmaker, philosophy and history majors/minors won’t help you out that much. so prioritize your priorities…lol</p>
<p>The short answer is … you better have top-notch studying skills in order to manage those. :)</p>
<p>Would it be easier to Major in Biology and Minor in Fine Arts, or vise versa?</p>
<p>I’m an admitted fine art’s student, but i’m beginning to question if I’ll be mentally stimulated enough with F.A. as a major. If I do chose to internally transfer into CAS for bio, would I even have a chance to get in?
I took 8 AP classes (all 4’s and 5’s) with a 3.5 UW 4.29W. </p>

<p>I’m guessing that fine arts is a Tisch major? If that is the case then as a bio major in CAS I do not believe you can minor in fine arts. If you are in Tisch, it would probably be easier to transfer to CAS rather than from CAS to Tisch. What were your SAT scores?</p>
<p>No, fine arts is in Steinhardt, who I believe allows cross-school minors.</p>
