Double Major, Pre-Med, and questions galore!

Hey y'all! I've applied to Vanderbilt RD, and I am praying for an acceptance letter to arrive in early April. Now, I have quite a few questions. Currently, I am really considering being Pre-Med; however, I think I want to double major in the sciences and humanites. I cannot decide between majoring in Classics/Euro Studies OR molecular biology. I'm really interested in both. I do not know if it would be feasible to double in such totally different disciplines. Are there many people at VU who do such? I've heard that Vanderbilt makes it easier to double major. Would double majoring like this still give me time to participate in extra-curricular activities and such? I might end up just majoring in a non-science but taking the pre-reqs for medical school. There is just SO much I want to do. How arduous are the intro science courses? Is Vandy known to "weed out" a lot of people for medical school? I really do not like calculus and physics, but I love biology and chemistry. I'm afraid I'll be below the competition. Assuming I study my butt off, should I be able to succeed in these rigorous courses? I'm sorry to be a bother, but I am really appreciative for any insight. :)

Double majoring would not be very difficult. As an MCB major, you would still be required to fulfill the AXLE core curriculum. Your other major would help take care of many of those requirements. Another thing to consider would be a major and a minor. Chem and Bio are generally the 2 biggest “weed out” courses. It’s very possible to do well, but many students start out “pre-med” and quickly realize they cannot handle the coursework, or are not interested in the sciences. But again, the coursework is doable. As far as activities go, you will have time for them, but you will have to time manage very well. Med school requires shadowing, volunteering, leadership, and research. Being a pre-MD/PhD MCB major myself, I found I had did not have a ton a free time, but I enjoyed my schoolwork and working towards my goals. Good luck on your application this year and let me know if you have anymore questions!
