Double Major question

I am currently a High School Junior. UF is the college I plan on attending, but I have a few questions.

How do Double Majors work?

Are double majors complete in 4 years?

Can I double major in say, Physics and Robotics?

If I wanted to also Major in Psychology, how would I go about doing that ? I do not plan on doing this, but I would still like to know.

Non-related question: I do not think I will be able to get into UF by simply applying. If I do get rejected, could I say, apply to a small college like Perdue, get all A's my first year, then reapply to UF and Get accepted?

double majors:

pick a first major, pick second major, get required credits for both majors, including college requirements, graduate with 2 majors.

robotics isnt a major, so you cant do that. but you can double major in physics and psychology.

and yes, you can transfer in. there isn’t much publicly available information about it, but in-state CC graduates seems to get preference, and you would have trouble transferring credits from an out of state school. you’re better off transferring from a florida school.

If your major is in the same college, you pretty much just fill out a form. If it’s from two seperate colleges, you fill out a few forms. You have to complete the requirements for both majors. Sometimes you can’t select two ultra-similar majors. You cannot pick 2 businnes majors, for example.

So long as you will be able to complete all the requirements in about 4 years, they will probably allow you to double major.

Transfering is a major crapshoot, it depends on which college you are trying to transfer into. Also, it’s very rare for them to accept university students (again, depending on college). You have to have 60 credits before you can transfer. (so, 2 years)

Ok then, what would I want to major in to pursue a career in Robotics?

I’d lean toward Electrical Engineering. Possibly work at the machine intelligence lab.

i’m still trying to figure out why you’d want to go to UF if you didn’t even know that Robotics wasn’t a major there… seems like you still have some searching to do.

If you want to go into robotics, you’d either have to major in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering. there are a few courses geared towards making robots.

With dual majors, they have to be in the same college. So you could dual major in electrical and mechanical engineering. Outside of the college dual majoring, is called a dual degree. I’m not sure if computer engineering is part of CoE but if it isn’t do a dual degree in electrical engineering and computer engineering but any dual with engineering is going to be A LOT of work and you need to be prepared for it.

Just because you don’t THINK you will get in, the admissions committee might think differently.

Chill out. He was probably only making an example about the robotics.
