I am planning to do a double major in IR/economics and Mechanical engineering .
I wanted to know whether this is a good choice . Mechanical engineering is a definite .
What are the most popular Double majors involving enngineering .

Which Universities offer such double majors . Does it cost more for a double major ?

I am not looking at Tier 1 universities (Except HYPMS .. and a few others )

I need your opinion .

It’s tough to major in two completely opposite fields of study without having to stay in school an extra year or two.

I can’t speak for other schools, but at Duke, it’s very doable. Many engineers also major in economics because many engineers (nearly half) end up going into finance or consulting. However, you would probably have to spend a couple semesters taking an extra class or take summer school. If you just take extra classes during the semester, the price will be the same (Duke charges the same price whether someone takes 3 classes or 6 classes). Taking extra classes can be pretty stressful, though, especially if you’re heavily involved in ECs, so many spend one summer taking classes. This option costs extra money. It’s not too burdensome, though, for one can get financial aid for the summer.

thank you both …
Is it a good combination ? … or would you suggest some other combination with mechanical engineering degree (A commerce degree)
Can you please State more universities such as duke … a bit lower in TIER 1 universities

I am really sorry to disturb u ppl again …
