Double Major

What exactly are the different areas to choose from for a double major? I know the two majors aren't allowed to be in the same area. Would double majoring in 5 (Chem) and 7 (Bio), or 7 (or 5) and 18 (Math) be allowed? Courses 5, 7, and 18 all fall under the "School of Science"--is that what is meant by the different areas?

That just means you can’t “double” in two different types of the same major – for example, you can’t “double-major” in 6-1 (electrical engineering) and 6-3 (computer science), because those are administered by the same department. Similarly, you can’t get a second degree in one of the fields of a composite major, for example, 18C (math with computer science) and computer science.

There’s no problem doubling in any of the combinations you’ve listed, because those are different degrees.

Great, thanks Mollie! That helps a lot.
