I'm a sophomore majoring in English with an emphasis in creative writing, with a minor in studio art. However, even though writing is my passion, my art classes excite me so much more. I was looking at my personal degree plan and I would have 36 credits in art by graduation (27 for minor plus uncounted pre-requisite courses), with 66 needed to get a BA in Studio Art. It would only take a year more at most to get a double major, or a semester if I were willing to take 18 credits a semester and probably have several breakdowns until graduation (I'm an honors student, but I'm not sure if I'm THAT good to handle six semesters of that). I couldn't fall back on summer classes either, since both the English and Art departments don't offer what I need for my degree during that time.

I REALLY want to double major, but I'm afraid of the financial commitment it implies. I'm on a scholarship right now and have no debt at all, but the scholarship is only renewable for four years. After that, I'm on my own. I know my family could pay one semester of college without my scholarship, but I'm not sure if I could pay a second. Because of personal reasons, I can't get a job while in college or take out loans. I'm dependent completely on my parents (only child here!).

That's pretty much the only thing stopping me. I love both subjects to death and I have plans to get secondary education certification in English after graduation, then plan to save money for an MFA at an art school. After that, I'll just see where life takes me. I'll just add that salary has never been a factor to me; I'm in it for the new things I want to learn and for doing what I love with that knowledge. I'm just wondering what others' thoughts would be on the matter, I'm very conflicted about this whole thing!
