Double Major?

I think I have definitely decided to go to Purdue! The only problem is, I don't quite know what to degree in. I want to design phones and/or computers, so it has to be a type of engineering. Would it be best for me to get a degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical engineering? I'm not quite sure what the difference is. Should I double major in two to increase my chances of landing a job? Should I double with something like Computer Science? Since their all engineering, would it be a big load or would some of the classes like math and electives count for both? I am a straight A honors student, so I don't think having a double major be too difficult. Suggestions would be great, thanks:)

Computer Engineering! The degree is basically a mix between CS and EE. Electrical engineering could work too; but Computer Science is more designing the software phones will use, instead of the phone hardware itself.

If you’re going to Purdue, you’ve got plenty of time to decide. Your future isn’t cast in stone upon admission.

Just for grins, based on what you’ve stated, read about Mechatronics.

Don’t do two degrees if it involves staying more time as an undergraduate. It won’t do you any good in finding a job. The suggestions for majors given above are good. You have time to look into them during your first year of general classes.

If you want to design phones and analyze the functionality of technology you should be majoring in industrial design. From what you have explained ID is exactly what you’re looking for, my brother majors in ID at Carnegie Mellon and that’s exactly what he’s doing.

Per ID, it depends on what the OP means by desire to “design” phone/computers.

My thought and general consensus from other threads is that it is best to stick to one major in engineering. That will be plenty hard enough. Then perhaps add minor or concentration in areas of interest after your interests are more refined.

For you, it seems that Computer Engineering is the direct choice. I have a couple friends though who are in EE and are doing phone designs. It’s pretty flexible across majors. However, I would recommend having a clearer plan going into college. Purdue does have a great deal of opportunities, but it is also very expensive. So try to develop your track as soon as you have an idea.
