Hello, I wanted to know if it is possible to do a double major from different schools (I was thinking economics and computer science) without being in their honors dual degree programs?
@daywave yes you can very easily do a double major in CS and economics. You don’t have to be in a dual degree programs to that.
It is important to distinguish the two options:
a double major between SEAS (for CS) and CAS (for economics).
a dual degree between SEAS and Wharton (for business)
The option is easier to do in terms of number of credits you need to take and also in term of just doing it.
The second one is still doable, but you need to formally apply and there are more credits that you need to take.
@Penn95 oh I must be mistaken - I was referring to a dual degree.
I want to do a dual degree in comp sci @seas and econ @wharton but I don’t think I have the qualifications for being admitted into the M&T program.
Is doing this just a matter of completing the required credits or is it an actual appllication process similar to that of applying to college?
Thanks!
@daywave Wharton does not offer an economics degree. it offers a business degree. dont be confused by the Bachelor of Science in Econ title of the wharton degree, it is just for historical reasons, the wharton degree is not an econ degree.
Everybody who wants to pursue a dual degree must submit an application, but if you have decent grades and a demonstrated, well thought-out interest in business it is not difficult to get approval to pursue the dual degree.
You can do an uncoordinated dual degree program. I know a person who is completing one and it is very difficult but doable. I would recommend double majoring instead. But, see how the first semester is with your workload and how you handle it before you try and do too much.
