double major

I've learned a lot of college materials in computer science. I guess I can add more courseload and learn more about business.
So, Is the following double major possible in CMU?
SCS and Tepper
SCS and Information Systems
SCS, Tepper and Information Systems

Shall I list Tepper of SCS as my first choice in order to double major?

Thanks for your replies!

SCS should be your first choice since you'll probably need the priority enrollment to be sure you get into all of the classes you want. I think SCS might also require them to be your home college if you're double majoring, but I'm not sure (I know CIT does).

You should be able to double major with only a little added difficulty on top of what the "typical" CS student gets at CMU, but your classes will be a bit different since I think most SCS students do their required minor in math.

My recollection from a slide show we saw at admitted students weekend was that while a lot of SCS students minor in math it certainly wasn't "most". Perhaps a quarter. There were quite a few in physics, robotics and human computer interaction if I am remember correcting. And they always like to tell you that one student minored in bagpipe performance.

Sorry, by "most" I should have said plurality. :p Most CS people do get their minor in a technical field as there's a lot of overlap and it tends to be the stuff they're good at. I think more engineers tend to do minors/doubles in business than CS students at CMU.

gotcha. so I should apply to SCS and then minor or double major in Tepper?

My S is a freshman at SCS. He's having a hard time getting Tepper courses because of demand from Tepper students. I think he indicated you needed to take a couple of courses in your freshman year so that you're on track for the degree, and as of now, he hasn't.

So, in addition to checking if this is possible, I would inquire as to how easy/difficult it is to find slots in the business courses. My son's opinion was that a minor wasn't worth much.

^^
thanks for your info! i heard about the workload in SCS. but workload of tepper may be not as much as that of SCS.
Is there any difficulty registering the courses in Tepper?

There is a bit, yes. Tepper is immensely popular with the rest of the school who always try to transfer or minor or double major with business.

Thanks! Is there any difficulty double majoring in SCS from Tepper?

I'm not sure about Tepper but you asked if CS and Information Systems double major is possible. Yes, my S graduated with this combination.

My first impression was--- too much technology. But turned out to be a highly marketable double major especially if you want to go into the financial industry. There wasn't much they could throw at him in an internship interview that he hadn't touched upon somewhere in some class. There's also overlap of some classes...this enabled him to get IS masters too (5 years total).

so if you wanna double major in CS and IS, what sch should u apply to?

A minor is pretty easy to get, the only hard part is making sure you get into all of your required classes for it. If you double in Tepper instead of just minor, it might be slightly easier to get into classes, though you should probably decide that early just in case
