Double Major?

Is it crazy to double major at Berkeley? Would it be possible to double major in PoliSci and Rhetoric or Spanish?

…

Not at all that crazy to double major, though how crazy it is depends on major. I know someone doing Poli-Sci and economics. If you’re interested enough in both majors, you’ll find the steam to do it.

It’s not crazy, but just hard work. I know someone who is doing EECS and MS for double major, and he is getting ****ing raped everyday - barely any sleep. But like mathboy98 said, it depends on your major. If you have the time and the willingness to study hard, I think you can do it.

Thanks…I think I may try it.

I’m planning on majoring on Poli Sci and Bus Admin/Accounting… It’s very much possible… I’ve planned it…

Then again, I did happen to have junior standing before I enrolled at Cal do to APs and CC credits… :S

PoliSci with all the college requirements is do-able in three years so if you may do Rhetoric or Spanish in that one remaining year, you may.

I’m doing PoliSci and Legal Studies and I can manage to do it. :D

feels minuscule while eying the smart a* above*

:(

drbash> The only thing I would add is to ask if you’re thinking about double majoring to make yourself more attractive as a grad school applicant. I completed a seminar in the Poli Sci Dept. last Spring where we learned that double majoring might be a detriment for PhD programs (as it shows a possible lack of focus). This last statement came from a former member (from the Poli Sci faculty) of the grad application committee at Cal (the sentiment was seconded by his counterpart from Stanford). They seemed to agree that it was less important an issue for MPP programs…

My advice is to pick a major you really like, and take classes in other departments you’re simply interested in. If you must add something to your resume, consider a minor. Really though, you’re at Berkeley… just explore, explore, explore.

Double majors can be very doable, just don’t waste too much time on useless classes.
