double major

I'm holding high hopes for college, that's why I'm considering double major on pharmacy and economics(international studies).
I have discussed the idea with multiple of my friends who also got accepted to sd but they make it sound like an impossible task, so I am really worried about what I should do. I know pharmacy alone is a very busy and difficult major already but I am personally very interested in business.

Do you guys really think it is impossible? I mean...I can give myself credit as an average-high hard worker in my high school, which is really competitive. I sometimes get extremely motivated and other times slack off like every other high school students. I am about top 15% of the class. Will I still have a life if I do double major (assuming it is possible)?

hmm, if you set your mind to it , it’s possible
but, it may require you taking summer courses or staying more than 4yrs
you could start off as double major, and then if it gets difficult, you could minor in economics^^

It’s not impossible to do in four years. I would recommend talking to an academic advisor when you get here and they can map out a four-year plan for you. It may include quarters where you take 18-20+ units, which can be hard depending on your study habits. But on that note - you said you want to do an economics major because you are interested in business. The two subjects are extremely different! Make sure you like Econ because it is definitely not like Business Admin.

EDIT: what college are you in? The amount of GEs you have can greatly affect your ability to do a double major in 4 years.

If you cram 5 courses into each quarter (which my friend successfully does while maintaining a ~3.65) then you can double major in Pharmacy/Econ. Econ majors have a pretty small amount of coursework in comparison to other majors, and thus Econ majors are (almost) expected to double major–all of my friends that are studying Economics are double majoring, because they can graduate within 2-3 years if they don’t.

Thank you for replying:D
@xlemonpie: that’s a good idea=]

I got accepted to Muir, which is my first choice. It has the most flexible GEs, so i guess that’s good news!
I have actually never taken an economics class in high school, so I really have little idea of what it is like. I like ‘business’ because it has a very sociable environment, esp. traveling to different places as well as seeing things outside of this protective bubble. And from the list of sd majors, I find international studies–econ to be closest to I have in mind. Overall, ‘business’ does not offer careers that will be completely reliable in the future, esp with the current econ crisis, so it is safe for me to have a skill at hand(pharmacy), and hopefully combine the two in the future.

wowww five course each quarter… including summer? @.@"
