Hi everyone,

I’ve been admitted as a sophomore transfer student. I’ve got some (or rather, a lot) of questions though. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer them! :)

1) When I was applying, I randomly chose Literature as my intended major because I heard that what you put on your app isn’t set in stone, and it doesn’t affect which school you can take classes from. At the time I knew I wanted in AU, but not exactly which major. But I got admitted into CAS, and now I’m kind of confused. I’ve decided I want to double-major in Foreign Language and Communications in CAS and International Studies in SIS. How would that work? The reason being that I want to finish off my remaining GED reqs with courses that are also major-required, but lots of courses seem to require me to be admitted into a certain department or school to take? I don’t know if that’s true.

2) Also, would I need two advisers then - one from each school? Do I just contact an adviser from SIS, or talk to my adviser from CAS?

3) As for Welcome Week activities, is there a significant disadvantage to going to the Aug transfer orientation instead of the one in July?

4) In regards to registration, my booklet says that AU is supposed to mail me some kind of form along with my enrollment deposit receipt having to do with immunization records, but that hasn’t arrived. Is there an online form/place to send the records?

5) It seems like AU will mail a lot of things to my home. However, my family is in the process of moving overseas. In less than a month, this house won’t be ours, lol. Is there some way I can obtain the same materials online? Will I miss anything significant?

6) This is more of a nerve question, I guess. Anyone on CC that goes to AU and is from California/the West? I was born in NYC but haven’t been there since then lol. No idea what the East is like at all. I’m expecting that I will freeze in the fall. Also, like I said, my fam is moving out of the States, so I’ll be completely alone. Just nervous. :P

Sorry if these are really dumb questions. I’m the same age as the incoming freshmen students (turning 18 in July) so university/dorming/etc, all of that is new to me too. And my mom is really unclear about stuff like that lol. I’m not actually sure she even knows what financial aid forms are since I filled all of those out. Any help would be great appreciated!

Thanks guys :)
