I noticed that usnr says that there were 16 pct of iwu students who dbl majored. This seems a bit low (not sure, tho). If it is low, Does anyone know why? Is there a distinct preprofessional bias at IWU and thus less 'exploring'? just asking.

note - d wants to dbl major in psych and english. this is not some idic5 bias.

Here's my take on this - pure speculation on my part.

The double majors are almost certainly arts and sciences majors who are not pre-professional. There is such a high percentage of the school that is either Nursing (obviously a unique major), Business (which doesn't as often lend itself to double majoring), Fine Arts (these majors are highly specialized and in some cases, like Music Theatre, require so many credits and are actually interdisciplinary already that a double major is impossible or unnecessary). An aside - I can very much relate to your D's desire - my D was an English/philosophy major and I was a psych/Spanish major.

I am a double major in IWU. I think it is pretty common for IWU students to double major. A lot of my friends are double major; poli.sci. & spanish, math & music, bio & spanish, greek studies & envo.sci. It is very manageable. I almost got bio & philosophy double major with japanese minor, but decided that I didn't want to kill myself senior year.
