I'm about to apply to the USC School of Cinematic Arts, but I'd love to double-major with Business. As far as I know, it should be possible. But I searched high and low on the USC website and couldn't find ANY information at all about double-majoring. I'm from Switzerland, so maybe I just lack some basic knowledge about American colleges in general. Could anybody point me in the right direction?

Oh, and something else: Am I right that it's impossible to double-major in Film Production and Engineering (BA / BSc)? Because this would be my dream combination. I like Business, too, but combining Film with Engineering would be the fulfillment of a lifelong dream... :)

"Cinema-Television is a joint program consisting of courses offered by both the Marshall School of Business and USC's School of Cinema-Television. Students successfully completing the program receive a BS in business administration with an emphasis in cinema-television. This is a highly competitive program with only 40 available slots per year. Because of its intensive nature, students MUST enroll into the business/cinema-television program the first semester of their freshmen year. Interested incoming freshmen should speak with their advisor about this program during freshmen orientation or contact Marshall's Office of Undergraduate Admissions once they are admitted to USC."

Film Production and Engineering? My brain hurts just thinking about all the courses that would require :)

Not to say that it's impossible, though you'd have to check with the individual schools to see what the requirements are and/or if they'd let you try that.

What exactly are your interests/goals/etc? There might be a simpler way to accomplish what you want to do. Film production is a pretty prestigious degree from USC, so that might be something to consider also.

@jbusc: I'm aware that the Film Production degree from USC is prestigious, but to be honest that's exactly one of the reasons why I'm applying. Working in the film industry is my ultimate dream and it's really the one thing I can imagine myself in. I mean, I've been acting for almost my whole life (more theater than film, though), I have a huge interest in film sound (did the sound design for some short movies) and I love photography. Film is just the logical combination of it all.
But a double major has the following advantages:
- Although the Film Production degree is very prestigious, it's still an art major, which means that nobody can guarantee you that you'll ever have a great job. Sure, chances aren't bad when you graduate from USC, but still... With a double major I'd have a "safety net".
- Like I said, I have a huge interest in film sound. It's almost pathological, I'm not kidding. Combining sound with movies is just amazing. And I have this need to know exactly how sound "works", from the propagation of sound waves to how a compressor or a noise reduction system works internally. That's why a double-major with engineering would be great. Tomlinson Holman, the head of the sound department at USC has a engineering degree, by the way.
But don't get me wrong: film sound is not my only interest when it comes to movies. It's just the part where I really want to know what's going on.
