double majoring: bio and journalism/english?

i love english, but im a little scared that english may be a "bs" major. I was also considering literary journalism. Anyways, I would love a career with either of those as a major but I don't feel to confident about it. Recently I have thought about pursuing a medical career.

Is it just stupid to double major in Bio and journalism/english? I don't know which I like better..journalism or english. English is very vague and I don't really know what I could do with it, which is why I was leaning towards lit journalism.

Am I crazy here?

I am a sophmore and currently enrolled in bio classes (though a little behind, but planning on taking summer school) and taking care of my school of humanities requirements.

I was Undecided/Undeclared as a freshman, which is why I am kind of behind...I feel like this definitely set me back and I never would have wasted my time with Unistudies because it did not help at all. I wish somebody would have told me to get started on bio just in case...

I am very worried about my major. I have talked to a counselor and she was able to fit in a schedule of bio and lit journalism into my remaining years at uci, but i was just wondering what others think..

please don't offer overcritical comments or whatever because I am really self conscious about this decision...

thanks a lot guys =)

Yea a little crazy… But crazy people make the world go round.

Bio and medicine don’t necessarily go together. You really only need the first 2 years of it + physics (I’m pretty sure) at UCI to meet the undergraduate class requirements of any health profession school. To complete the major, you need to take roughly 10 more UD classes beyond what I just said unless you’re developmental and cell bio which is a little less.

So imho, you’re overdoing it if you double major and you should just focus on one major and be good at it.

TBH if it’s not science, it’s all bs. LOL! Kidding! Don’t hurt me.

A question I would ask you is, how good are you? Can you do 20+ units (or how many ever) and get A’s like it’s a piece of cake?

hey thanks for the input! well the only reason why i want to double major is exactly what you said…i feel that bio is a pretty safe major whereas journalism/english isnt really. i wouldnt feel safe if i just got a major in the latter. and i know that premed students are basically bio for a while so that is why i am taking bio classes. i actually kind of like chemistry…

to be honest, i find the humanities classes kind of easy. anything that relates to reading is kind of my strong point so i know i can handle those classes.

and i know its freakin crazy but i just cant bring myself to just go for english/journalism because it feels too unsafe…

=(

for right now i guess ill just take a mixture of both the classes and see if i truly like bio…
