got into UIUC comp engineering is it possible at UIUC to combine a business major with say comp engineering to transfer completely to business ? Also can i change majors now before going there , if i do decide to go there ?

Yeah, what you're talking about is a dual degree in business and engineering. Double majoring is when you have two majors within the same college.

It is possible to get a dual degree in business and engineering, however; it's pretty difficult considering engineering itself is hard enough to get through. Unless you already have a lot of AP credit, it might take you more than 4 years to complete a dual degree. Of course, you could always take summer school to make sure you graduate in 4 years.

You can't officially change your major before coming here, but if you decide to go here, then I think you are allowed to officially change your major when the school year begins. But you can only change your major to a different major within the college of engineering.

What would basically happen is that you would take your engineering courses and then you would also have to take the core business courses that all business majors usually take during their freshman and sophomore years. Then, during your sophomore year or junior year, you would apply to the college of business with the intention of pursuing a dual degree in engineering and business.

You are only allowed to apply to the college of business once you've satisfied all of the requirements for inter-college transfer into the college of business.

So you're still allowed to take the core business courses that all business majors take even though you aren't officially majoring in business. The main thing is that you have to do well those courses so that you're successfully admitted into the college of business.

Some of what I said might not be completely accurate. It would be best if you sent an email asking an engineering advisor whether a dual degree in business and engineering is possible.

I am also interested in double majoring and will most likely be at Purdue, West Lafeyette in the fall. Im looking at Mechanincal Engineering and Business, both are pretty respected programs at Purdue, and I m pretty sure that my ap credits should satisfy a majority of the general ed classes (AP Spanish 3, AP English Lang 5, AP US History 4, and am going to take AP English Lit, AP Calc, and AP AM. Gov in may)
Wish us luck!

You could also do the General Engineering (it's basically Business Engineering) cirriculum with a focus in CompE. The cirriculum is really general you have to specialize to play to whatever strengths you want. You can lean towards business (Finance) or engineering (mat sci). You can go almost any direction you want with it.
