Double majoring in IT and CS

I was looking at the course maps for both IT and the BA in CS on my University’s website. I figured it would be pretty easy to add a Computer Science major to my IT, since it would basically entail taking a few more programming classes. I’m interested in working in development, but I also want to be as flexible as possible in terms of the job market. Would this be a good move?

Although I’m a freshman at my school, my credits I fulfilled in high school make me technically a sophomore. I already have a lot of free time as is, and figure adding a similar major like CS wouldn’t take much more time. I just want to make sure it will actually make a difference in my future.

Thanks

In my experience it would be better if you could add a minor in something completely different. So many jobs in IT these days require skills beyond technical ability. I never thought my minor in Communications would be anything more than something different to do and easy As, but in reality the combination of CS and Communications has really made a difference in my career. When hiring, I’m impressed if I see someone technical who also has extensive coursework in English or History or Economics - anything that will help with critical thinking, analysis, writing ability, and interaction with non-technical folks.
