Double majoring (I've read the FAQ)

I'm aware that adcoms don't give credit for double majoring, but do they care at all if it took 6 or even 7 years to double major? I was initially going to major in biochem but I got interested in philosophy so I might want to double major in them, taking 6~7 years to graduate. Of course, I'll be older (~24), but other than that, would adcoms not like the fact that I took 7 years to graduate due to double majoring, or would they not care?

1) Why would it take you 6 years to double major? Unless you're a college senior right now, that's ridiculous.

2) Taking an irregularly long period of time to graduate will raise eyebrows...hard to say the exact impact, but generally you don't want eyebrows raised. It would be something you'd have to explain, and I don't think most people would consider double majoring a good reason for taking that long.

3) Do you really need the major? Would a minor or just taking some extra philosophy classes satisfy your interest?

4) The reason most people don't get two majors is because it makes you very busy - you can't get by just taking 15 credit hours a semester, 18 or 20 hours is pretty much the norm.

5) Age is not consideration in medical school admissions. Quite a lot of people either take gap years, or are reapplying, and the average age for people starting medical school nationwide is 24 or 25 depending on the year
