Double Majoring + Minor

Hey everyone! I'm IThinkICan100!

I'm a HS Junior prepping for college. I really love travel and culture so I plan to work in the travel industry and, later, working abroad in business of some sort. Luckily, the local University that I want to go to has some awesome degrees. One that I've had my eye on is their International Business major. With a degree in that, it suits my career interests and a lot more.

What's my conundrum? If you want to do International Business (for ease, IB), this college requires you to double major in a related field and take a foreign language (and be fully fluent by your graduation). So... I'm planning on double majoring in IB and Management with a minor in Arabic.

Hopefully this will work to my benefit because they have a Arabic speaking dorm. A single person dorm there is a fraction of the cost at the main dorms, which is strange! Plus, they give you a hefty rebate for being apart of this.

Anyway, I don't really know what I'm getting myself into! I'm a bit worried that this might be a bit too much for me to do, but, on the other hand, there are a lot of benefits. Some people say that having related majors and minors works symbiotically and isn't too much more work. Others say that it is way too hard. I think, since they require you to double major, they wont put too much pressure on me. Although, I'm not exactly sure!!!

What do you guys think? Is it worth it? Is it going to be too much work? Will it be more expensive?

I like the fact that your univesity is requiring that of you. Just an IB degree with no fluency in a foreign language and no practical degree to go with it (international business is not a major in high demand) will lead to very poor job prospects.

Honestly, it does not sound very difficult. It’s not like you’re going to be taking a bunch of math, engineering, or physics classes. Business majors are really not very hard, especially if you have decent study habits/average smarts. I dont’ know a damn thing abotu arabic; I’m really not sure that would help you much unless you plan on working in the oil industry, but don’t rely on my advice.

Really, the only downside I see is that you will have less electives available to get a broader/more interesting education, but a lot of people double major and it’s really not that huge of a deal.
