Double majoring + minoring in a language; or, is taking 21-26 units reasonable?

The worst part about being a transfer student is that I have limited time to explore various topics offered at Cal. I am a Sociology Major, but I would love to double major in Development Studies. Since DS requires 2 years of a foreign language, I want to take an additional 2/3 classes language/chinese culture classes in order to minor in Chinese and build solid skills in the language. Right now I am planning on 18 units, but if I were to pursue the double major, I would enroll in 22. What are some thoughts on this?

Yeah, with 0 life, a lot of caffeine and ADD meds overdose

Since neither of those majors are particularly known to be very time consuming, you will probably be fine (hopefully, you are already proficient in Chinese). Many of my humanities major friends take up to 30 units, though these are extreme cases and not the norm.

Is there a reason you do not want to major in one while taking elective courses of interest in the other and Chinese?

I would not have thought it possible to take that many units at one time and get good grades. What about taking the sociology classes on campus during the school year and then Chinese classes next summer in the UC study abroad program?
