Hi, so my passion and what I hope to do in the future is along the lines of animation/game design. Now I know this can be a risky field so thats why I plan on doing computer engineering since it seems safer. I still want to do computational media though since I will apply for internships/jobs in the animation/game design field also and im not sure how helpful a comp e degree would be. I was wondering if it is possible to do a comp e major and minor in comp media or if it is possible to double major in them. about how long would it take for each if possible and what are the tradeoffs and recommendations you guys have. anything is much appreciated. also i dont know much about the system at tech so if you could explain that too it would be nice. Thanks!

Usually if you want to know answers about a specific school, it’s a good idea to check the school’s website. I found this on the GT website (after searching for “Georgia Tech double majors”:

*Q1. Can I double major at Georgia Tech?

Second Undergraduate Degree - Georgia Tech does not offer double majors but does offer a second undergraduate degree. You must meet all of the requirements for both degrees and earn credit for a total of at least 36 additional hours in excess of the first degree.*.

More information about that is [here[/url]. Double majors at many universities are basically programs which allow you to double-count some of your classes for both majors - i.e., if you were a math and physics major a mathematical physics class might be counted towards both majors. It appears that GT does not allow you to do that; you cannot double major, but you can complete the second major separately, as if you were doing a second bachelor’s degree. The average undergrad takes about 30 credits a year, so 36 extra credits would - in theory - take you one additional year if you overloaded elsewhere or took some summer classes. But given that computer engineering is already a a pretty intensive major that may take you over 4 years, even at Tech, your time to degree might extend even longer than anticipated.

You can, indeed, minor at GT. There is a minor in computer science - media track.
I would highly encourage to go to your academic advisors! My personal opinion though is that computational media is enough if you don’t mind going the CS route just incase you can’t find a job in animation/game design from the start. Since one of your threads is a cs thread and one is a CM, you will get that hands on experience in CS as a back up. Just be ready to System.out.print(“code”); Go visit your advisor though, they will help you out the most!
