When I’m in college I plan on majoring in English or Creative writing but I’m considering double majoring in Philosophy. Can anyone share with me this pros and cons of double majoring?
Well the pros could be having more career options. The con is that it would be harder to graduate in 4 years. Have you considered just turning either/or into a minor?
Big disadvantage to double majors is very little room for courses in other subjects. Pros are maximized when majors are in very different disciplines, i.e., English and Economics, where one major is more marketable than the other.
Well, pros are that you get to explore another major in a systematic, formalized way; you have the potential to enhance career options (although with two humanities majors, I’m not sure that’s actually the case here).
Cons are that you have less open space on your schedule to take interesting electives and that you have to complete the courses you’re interested in in a specific way, rather than taking classes more ad hoc. It also may increase your time to degree.
