Hey, I'm Rebecca and right now I'm registered to start at USC in the fall as an East Asian Languages and Cultures major (I study Japanese). Recently, I've realized that I really want to change my major to Narrative Studies but I don't want to let go of Japanese or of learning about the international world/gaining access to the study abroad programs associated with it. I was thinking of double majoring in Narrative Studies and International Relations and I was just wondering if this is going to make my life a living hell or what? Also I wanna make sure to change my major before I start and I was wondering how I do that; and if anyone has any feedback regarding the Narrative Studies major I'd love to hear. :)

Fellow freshman here :)

You’ll only have a couple of electives left, but it sounds very doable. Here are the requirements for both:

International relations (64 units total = 4 semesters worth of classes): http://dornsife.usc.edu/sir/major-requirements/ -Includes space for a foreign language!

Narrative studies (36 units total = 2.25 semesters worth of classes): https://dornsife.usc.edu/narrative-studies/requirements/

That leaves 1.75 semesters worth of classes (7 classes). I don’t know the specific general ed requirements for those majors, but it’s usually 5 out of 6. So you’ll have 2 electives. Depending on your AP credits, it might be more.

Have you gone to orientation already? If you wanna change your major before registering for classes, you better call USC now/soon.
