double majoring

I got into the college of letters and sciences and want to major in econ - i was wondering how easy it would be to get a second major in chemistry or engineering. thanks

Neither one would be likely, I'd think. Even if you could arrange for it, definitely don't plan on getting out in 4 years.

My $0.02: If you like economics, a more useful minor or double-major would be math.

on the contrary, i think it's quite doable IF you have the mindset coming into berkeley that you are going to double major for sure. it just requires careful planning of all your classes each semester to fulfill all the needed requirements. i personally never thought about double majoring until just this semester (a second year), and thus am just barely short to be able to double in econ + engineering. if i had planned it out earlier, there would definitely have been room and more for a double major in econ and engineering. also depends on the specific engineering major. ieor + econ = easier than eecs + econ, as there are more overlap with ieor and econ than with eecs and econ.

how about double majoring in two sciences....

Chem E
and
Molecular Toxicology

bumpy bump

Bump
Bump
Bump

with careful planning on an excel spreadsheet I managed to make a schedule that accommodates both double degree in business + CS (graduating in 4 years) and double majoring in economics + CS (not EECS) as a backup if i dont get accepted to haas(graduating in 3.5 years).

bear in mind that haas has one of the most annoying pre-reqs and breadth requirements. however, also bear in mind that I have advanced credits for maths (able to skip first year calculus, ie. maths 1A,1B,16A,16B) and economics (able to skip econs 1,2)

about the workload, I will have 16-18 units per semester and 1 summer school during soph year (compulsory if you want to do business anyway)

it is definitely doable in 4 years but you need to plan first. however, the schedule will make it hard for you to change your mind afterwards. so if you have your heart set, i would suggest planning your schedule in advance.

What do ppl think about simultaneous degree (another term for double majoring in two colleges) for nutritional sciences and MCB?

Those two majors have similar prereqs but the upper divs for each of those majors are somewhat demanding.
