Do a lot of people double major at Stanford? Is it very difficult to do? Is it encouraged or discouraged? Also, what type of people double-major, and do most double-majors do it in very different fields or very similar fields? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

i remember someone asking that question on my tour. they said it was done, but not often. i think they are impartial to it... itll be hella hard though.

It is hard because you can not use the same credits for both majors.

yeah, that sucks

its also hard because its stanford, and one major is hard enough there! lol

My son is a junior at Stanford and hopes to complete a double major. You should be aware that each major has a different number of credits required, so how possible it is to double major depends on the specific subjects. For instance, majors in Engineering have many more credits required than in Humanities, usually. Also, it will help to have a lot of AP credits if you want to double major. You can be excused from part of the Writing requirement, the language requirement, two quarters of physics, two quarters of math, etc and it will be easier to complete all of the requirements if you can skip some intro courses.
