i am a senior in high school and i want to double major. the school of my choice has different departments for my intended majors and they have different prompts for supplementary essays. do i need to write two essays or can i just apply to one department, get accepted then declare my other major?
It’s going to be more complicated than either. I don’t know about your school, but at mine you apply with one major only, then fill out a petition to add a second major. That’s probably what you need to do. You need to prove that you can fulfill the requirements of both majors in a reasonable timeframe, and your second major needs to actually have room for you. If it’s a competitive major to enter or one where students cannot easily find classes, this can be extremely difficult, and they may well deny you.
