Double Majors at MIT

I have committed to MIT and am trying to form a general plan about my next four years. I am interested in either majoring Course 20 or Course 10B, and possibly double majoring with Course 14. In terms of work load and classes, is this feasible? I have heard that Course 10B has a heavier workload than Course 20, so would this double major be more feasible with Course 20? Thank you :)

Given that 20 and 10B have lots of requirements, 14 has a moderate number of requirements and that there is no overlap between the majors double majoring is not going to be particularly easy. To complete this double major would require either starting with lots of credit and taking 5 classes per term or taking 5-6 classes every term. In both cases, you would have very few unrestricted electives. This is not impossible but probably not very advisable either and at least in my experience virtually no one actually completes this kind of double major. I don’t see any huge incentive to do this double major either.

This is somewhat tangential but I would guess that a large majority of double majors at MIT are either from two fields with a lot of overlap (e.g. 7 and 9) or both majors are drawn from: {6,14,15,18}.

^Some course 14 classes may count toward the HASS requirement, so that would make doubling with course 14 easier.

Only 3 classes can count towards both the major and the HASS requirement so it doesn’t help as much as you might think.

3 classes is almost a full semester of classes.

You could consider getting a course 14 minor, in which case you could… probably get the entire minor in your HASS requirement.
