For the dorm, should i get double or triple? i am in Warren college. i was thinking about getting a triple because i liked to be around with more people. But i heard that triple dorm is basically a double dorm that put 3 people in. Is a triple dorm really that bad? Can someone describe about how the triple dorm feel like?

Size of a normal dorm room.

1 loft bed, 1 bunk bed.

bit crowded.

i suggest a double.

i’m trying to get a single cause i like being alone

does anyone else have experience about living in a dorm with 3 people?

when do we get to choose what type of dorm/what kind of roomates we want?

stay away from the triples imo. All the triples in my suite are so crowded and disgusting. You can barely see the floor with everyone’s s.h.i.t and I’m supposedly in one of the better colleges for housing(ERC). Luckily I’m in a double, which is pretty much the same size as the triples.

I’m in muir and I can say that it is quite crowded, though here at muir, I think it may as well be impossible to get a double. But a triple is not too bad here.

I heard Warren’s triples are suffocating though. So good luck with that.

warren doesnt have doubles for res halls
only singles and triples

I’m a stingy scrooge and I would hands-down pay extra for a single over a double over a triple. Don’t worry that living in a single will somehow impede your social life.

Agreed with general consensus here… I wouldn’t trade my double for anything I honestly don’t know how I would survive in a triple. They get messy quick.

So single>double for Muir? I’m stuck between these two.

double over single over triple. dont ever get a triple. no. unless youre in a corner suite in argo hall in revelle then youre ok

I got a single in Muir! It’s more spacious and probably a lot less of a headache than being in a double. There’s a lot of perks to it especially if you have a quirky lifestyle. As for the question of whether I’m socially impaired because of it or not, I find that kind of insulting. I’ve seen the flip-side of the whole social debate too where a person in a triple is just not socially active at all.

If you’re in a single, it’s just extra reinforcement to the mantra that college is your own experience and it’s yours to shape. You don’t have social situations pressed upon you every time you go back to your dorm. I used to hang out with my suite a lot, until I started staying up till 1-2am with people in other colleges. I just found the group of friends I’m comfortable with elsewhere!

How do you choose housing?

This is what it says on the Housing Application page:

Our records indicate that your Housing Application was already successfully submitted on 03/14/09. You may contact the Housing Office at 858-534-4010 during our normal weekday office hours of 8am to 4pm.

* Is this your current Email address? […] If not, please update it using MyApplication once you have completed your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR).
- UC San Diego will create e-mail accounts for new students in mid-May. The Housing Office and other campus offices use UCSD e-mail as the official means of communication. Please keep your mailbox clear so important messages can reach you.
- Instructions for completing the housing contract will be e-mailed to your UCSD e-mail account if you submit the housing application and Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) by their respective deadlines.

^In June, the actual housing application comes out in which you will indicate your room preference (double, triple etc) and answer a questionnaire about your daily habits.

I think I’m probably the only one who doesnt mind a triple :o

Or maybe I’m just the dumb naive freshman who has no idea what I’m getting myself into. Not that it makes a difference, because my parents cant afford a single for me, but I think if it were up to me, I’d be okay with a triple.

Even though the consensus is that singles are best, don’t worry if you get a triple or double. Plenty of people live in those and have plenty of fun. :)

I just got into Muir as a transfer, and my housing shows as The Village at Torrey Pines? I guess it’s a brand new building, which is nice. I’m wondering about what to apply for, too. Has anyone seen the rooms there? I’m all for saving money, but not if I’ll have to climb over mounds of clothes and stuff to get anywhere.

I’d be amazed if it was done by next year!! It looks like it’s a possibility though. Some of the buildings are “done.” Construction is still going on though, so no student (or virtually none) has seen what transfers have in store! Enjoy the brand new building if that’s what it really is, but be sure to bring a bike. It’s even farther from the central hub of campus than ERC which is mind boggling to me.

Maybe you should give HDH a call about how big dorms/apartments are? If they don’t have any idea, then you’re probably out of luck.
