Double versus Single spacing... HELP!

I know I saw a post addressing this very topic but I cannot find it and I do not remember what it said in response to the dilemma, so I find myself asking the question again (I apologize for repetition!).

Does write an essay that is "approximately one page" mean one page single-spaced, or one page double-spaced? If it means one page single-spaced, when we send in the essay should it be double-spaced for the sake of making reading it a bit easier?

Thoughts? Help!

My interviewer told me to at least do 1.5 spacing (she used to work in the admissions office and said it was easier on the eyes). I'd say to make sure your content fills one page single spaced, then format it 1.5 or double (whichever you prefer, really). I don't think the spacing and its effect on the number of pages of your essay matter as much as the word count...which should fill approximately one page, single spaced (~500 words).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong!
