Doubling up

Anyone thinking about this? I'm thinking about doubling up on geometry and algebra 2 as a freshman this fall.

Boarding school is hard. Harder than you think. Why overload in the first year?

You could take one of the two courses during the summer and then take a placement test during the fall to get placed into the appropriate math class and receive credit for the course you took.

Why would you do that? If you really love math that much, do geometry in your spare time but don’t take 2 maths. Use your elective for a subject that requires the classroom experience. All you need for math is problem sets, youtube, and some time. Take advantage of the riches your new school offers by branching out a little. If you’re trying to get advanced standing so that you can get to higher level maths before you graduate, then study geo or alg 2 (or both) this summer and try to place higher on the ladder to begin with. Of all subjects, math is the easiest to do on your own. There is a wealth of information for free on the internet.

I would be amazed if the school would even allow you to do this. D tried to take an extra course her first year at BS and they refused to let her. Her BS does allow it in later years.

I agree with 2010. I think the best thing for you is to go to a community college, and then take the placement test in the fall so you can go to an upper-level math class. There are so many interesting classes for you to take while at BS. Don’t waste it on stuff you can do at a public HS.
