Doubt about URM!

International students are consideed URM?
If yes wich minority receives the most substancial help?

Thanks!

International are NOT considered as URM (at top schools that is) and being international is, in most cases, detrimental to your chances.

Really? I didn't knoiw that being internation is detrimental for my chances. In wich ways this is true?

Thanks for the reply

It can be for top schools. Most top schools have a fixed cap on the number of international students they accept. Plus, some give limited or no aid to internationals.

At most top schools, admission rates for internationals are significantly lower than the overall admission rates (at MIT, Stanford, Columbia, Swarthmore, and Mount Holyoke, the international admission rate is about half as high as the general admission rate; those are the only schools I know the actual numbers of).

Are permanent residents considered URM's?. I have always believed so, but I read in one post that URM status is exclusive to only US citizens. I'm asking bc I am a Nigerian expatriate (SAT word of the day!) :)

Yes koolmaria139. The pool is much more competitive for internationals and perm res. But you're probably a good student.

But why are people so worried about this? Know your qualifications and apply to where you see fit, and hope for the worst!

I'm not worried about this,I asked because I read this thing of URM and I'd like to know if international students are considered URM too.

Jrock, all colleges I am aware of treat permanent residents like citizens, not internationals.
