C…is definitely the best !! Go for it…My counselor told me Id be able to ace it without prep…:)

i am surely giving Physics C Mechanics…should i also give Physics C Electricity and Magnetism??otherwise it will look incomplete on the app?

Please reply

Give it!! It’ll only do you good:D

I seriously have no problem giving Electricity , but 8500 is a bit of concern for me. Is it worth giving?

My main question if I only give Physics C Mechanics , does it look incomplete on the application without Physics C Electricity and Magnetism?

@Quiverfox …Which all are you giving?
Also is ap-india.org safe?

APs exist mainly to obtain college credit. If you know the subject and would like a cheaper option of testing, you can take 3 SAT IIs at once and pay less than $100.

AP is about $90 in US. Are they charging 8500 per test in India?

well yes I understand that but I also want to give APs

Yes its Rs.8500/- in India …while 90$ is only around Rs.5000/- Not fair :(

Are you going to take more than one AP test? One does not exactly impress colleges.

Please reply anyone!
Is Physics C Mechanics also sufficient in itself or Phyics C: Electricity and Magnetism is also recommended with it for impressive on app?

See…AP is not going to boost your chances at any college…So give as many as you can now…do the rest when you get there to start college…I am sure there will be a opportunity!!

@Quiverfox - ““AP is not going to boost your chances at any college””

really? i thought they will …i know its mainly for college credits but AP scores do look good on college app or not?

@jmlover- I think what Quiver’s saying is for people who’ve already applied to colleges and have begun getting their decisions (Class of 2017). APs aren’t going to boost our chances NOW.

Otherwise, yeah. They look great on a college app.

Nope…@firefliesdance…I don’t see any differences it would make( unless you don’t follow CBSE/ICSE/State syllabus) cause it won’t be offered at your school…and I have a good feeling that most top univs. know the rigor here…so not much of showing off with a few AP’s .HOWEVER …if you do need to finish of stuff early at college and want to save some money…Its worth doing a few…
Pls do correct me if Im wrong…

Well, um. I don’t really know cause obviously I haven’t asked any admissions counselors. What I do know is that I have a couple of friends at a US High School which doesn’t offer AP courses. They definitely took APs and were advised to do so by the adcoms at various colleges.

When you come to saying that most top univs know the rigor here, I’d have to disagree. Most know our syllabus and are familiar with the process in India but have a shockingly low view of even our non-practical learning. Given that no university (that I know of) offers credit on the basis of CBSE/ICSE but offers the same on the basis of IB, I think it’s reasonable to assume they don’t think we have a challenging workload. To back this up, my previous high school started the IB program two years back alongside ISC. This year, the IB students have fared much better in US college admissions than ISC students of comparable (or better) academic record and “potential”. The school (which has a good track record of sending students to US colleges) even encouraged those who intended to apply abroad to take up IB in 11th grade instead of ISC.

I say this only because I think APs are a good way for Indian students to compare themselves against the other people the Univs are admitting. In my opinion, APs help on an application. Definitely not as much as, say, essays, test scores or recs- but as much as, say, an interview. Differing opinions, really. :)

But yeah, as you say, the REAL benefit of APs is in getting course credit and finishing early.

(Also, this turned out long. Sorry.)

yea…I guess you’re right…But on the funnier side I think the CBSE are up to something;) The ruckus they created with that easy math paper was outstanding,:)

I don’t know. o.o I didn’t think it was that hard. Not even ambiguously worded. I think I probably got the easiest set or something. And yes, that’s quite a ruckus. :P

APs aren’t a deal breaker. They only help substantiate your application. However adcoms know that APs aren’t offered by many schools outside USA and also pose a financial burden to many and so they WILL NOT penalize you for not taking any AP.

According to me, the benefits of taking an AP with respect to the admission process is not worth the cost. But then again it is a personal opinion.

If you’re looking at APs for getting college credits - they are quite useful. Plus the cost is taken care of since you won’t be paying for those courses in your tuition fee!! But then again, if the college has it’s own free placement exams - then it’s better to just take them!!

@jmlover - If you want to take APs just to make your app “look good” - then it doesn’t matter which AP you take. Just take 3-5 APs at least and with a score of 4 or 5.

If you want college credit, look up the colleges you are applying to and which APs they give credit for.

Also ap-India is a safe website. But last date was 25th through that!
